Here at Fernvale, we teach History through the exciting My Rising Stars scheme. These resources engage the children by offering exciting activities to develop their learning.
Intent
A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
Implementation
We use the scheme My Rising Stars which teaches the 7 core substantive strands that run through our History curriculum alongside topic knowledge and chronological knowledge. . Each unit will have a key concept as its focus but will always incorporate others.
Each strand has a progression in knowledge and skills, detailed in this document, that link the topic areas together.
Alongside these we have 5 second order concepts – Historical Interpretation of the Past, Cause and Consequence, Change and Continuity, Similarity and Difference, and Historical Significance.
