School Meals

HOT DINNERS

Our School Meals are freshly prepared on site by Leicestershire Traded Support (Leicestershire County Council). During the morning register each day, the children have the opportunity to choose which option they would like.

  • Meat option
  • Vegetarian option

Children also have the option of bringing in their own packed lunch from home. If you are providing your child with a packed lunch, please ensure this does not contain any nuts.

Please do not include any sweets as part of a packed lunch. Take a look at this website for some wonderful ideas for ‘Healthier Lunchbox Recipes’.

If your child has any special dietary needs, please do not hesitate to contact us at school. The Head Cook, will be able to support with these but you must apply via LTS.

We teach the children about good table manners and then expect to see these. We also encourage our children to try new foods.

We ensure that all children eat a good amount of food at lunchtime. Children put their hands up to ask permission to go onto their pudding. If we feel they need to eat more, we encourage them to do so.

Your child is entitled to a free meal if they are in the Foundation Stage, Year 1 or Year 2. This is funding that the Government have introduced to schools under the ‘Universal Free School Meals’ Agenda. If your child is in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, they will receive a free school meal for their entire duration at Fernvale Primary School.

The price of an individual school dinner works out at Â£2.65 daily or Â£13.25 weekly. Parents need to make payments on a Monday for dinners that week, payments can be made online.

The Current School Menu runs on a 3-week rota

Please see the up-to-date information from LTS Catering Services

Payments for school meals are to be paid via the School Gateway.

We are a nut-free and beef-free school.

We do not serve halal meat.

Packed Lunches and Healthy Snacks

PACKED LUNCH

Children who do not wish to have a cooked meal can bring a packed lunch to school. Please remember when packing your child’s lunch that we are a nut free school. That means that your child can not bring any nuts or nut products in their lunch e.g. peanut butter, snickers. Only soft drinks and juices can be brought to drink at lunchtime. No fizzy drinks or cans.

HEALTHY SNACK

Children in EYFS and Key Stage 1, and all children in receipt of Pupil Premium funding, are provided with fruit as a healthy snack throughout the day.

All other children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack for breaktime if they wish. This could be a piece of fruit, yoghurt or even half a sandwich (no sweets or chocolate).
