Table tennis competition
In October, Arran, Owen, Kaylen and Arian from year 5 represented Fernvale in a year 5/6 table tennis competition held at Leicester Grammar. They enjoyed the competition and competed well despite the fact they had to play against children in year 6, some of whom were county champions!
Arian said: “It was hard because I played against year 6 and champions.”
Owen said: “It was very hard because we had to play year sixes and 3 county champions but we all played very well.”
Well done boys!
Leicestershire County Primary Cross Country League
Children in year 3,4 and 5 have competed in 3 cross country races as part of the Leicestershire County Primary Cross Country league. This is the largest competition of its kind in the country and can involve as many as 300 children per race.
Lily (year 5) said: “I thought the race was very long and it was hard to control my breathing but it was fun and I would consider doing it again.”
Harry (year 3) said: “I enjoyed the race but I nearly fell over!”
In February, 11 children from year 5 travelled to South Wigston High School to compete in a year 5/6 basketball competition. They were able to use some of the skills they had developed in their sessions with Leicester Riders player Barry Lamble, and, despite the fact that they were competing against some older and much bigger children, they never gave up. In their final game it was still 0 all at full time so it then went to “sudden death” which meant the first team to score would win. Once this happened, Fernvale really upped their game and it was end to end stuff. Unfortunately, due to time restraints, they were given another 10 seconds and in the final second the other team scored. Obviously the children were disappointed but they did a fantastic job in representing Fernvale in what is quite a new sport for us. Well done to all those children who took part: Abby, Joel, Olivia, Jenson, Oliver, Lily, Esha, Harvey, Max, Litya, Owen.
